BDJ BOX AND SHU UEMURA’S “ART OF BEAUTY” BEAUTY SOIREE: The Art of Dramatic Eyes

After playing around with Shu Uemura makeup and accessories, we had to freshen-up then go back to Shu Uemura since there’s still another workshop! The Art of Dramatic eyes by Ms. Claire Diokno.

Shu Uemura's Ms. Dyan Warren-Geiger Brand Manager introduced Ms.Claire Diokno who is the Senior Make up associate of Shu Uemura Philippines. She'll be giving us 3 looks!
Shu Uemura’s Ms. Dyan Warren-Geiger Brand Manager introduced Ms.Claire Diokno who is the Senior Make up associate of Shu Uemura Philippines. She’ll be giving us 3 looks!

While this was all happening I can’t help but notice the arrival of BDJ’s Beauty Ministers. They’re pretty! And since Claire is also a fan she said hi to them.

Even if she’s seven months along we can’t help but admire Ms.Claires happy personality which makes her very likable.

Ms. Claire and our model again.
Ms. Claire and our model for the second time who is also a hair and makeup expert.

Claire gave us a great tip. Don’t you have it when you put on your eyeshadow and when you’re done the pigments are all there under your eyes and on your cheeks? You can prevent this by setting up a trap. This trap can be done by using loose powder, you just have to sponge a thick layer under your eyes on on your cheeks.

For this look we will be using Shu Uemura’s Drawing Pencil Liner. It has a wide variety or colors and textures. It is also long-lasting and smudge-proof so you can wear it throughout the day and not worry that you would look like a panda.

Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil Liner
Shu Uemura’s Drawing Pencil Liner in sooo many colors.

For the first look it is a classic look that can be worn everyday like in the office going out with the family or even weddings! We will be using the White and Silver Drawing Pencils and the Pret-a Palette. The great thing about this brand is their make-up is so light that you can put a layer on top of the other without the fear of making it crack from thickness.

She then thought us how to put on falsies or false eye lashes. I myself have a pair but it is unused since I have this fear or poking my eye and messing it up. Some pointers will be:

  • Measure it to your eye and cut off the excess strands.
  • Cut them together to get an even pair.
  • Use good glue so the falsies wont fall after some amount of activity.
  • Put it from the outside of your eyelid in.
  • Just put the right amount of glue.

The first look is now complete.

The first look is great and very simple. The long lashes gives an element of sexiness to it, and the white eyeshadow can only be seen whenever the model closes her eyelids.

On to the next look! As I’ve said earlier Shu Uemura’s makeup can be layered without the feeling of heaviness to the user and without the fear of it cracking. So for the next two looks we will just be adding more!

The second look was an inspiration from the 60s. So for this look Claire just added more brown eyeshadow on the lid near the occular cavity and silver for the middle lids. Felt tipped Shu Uemura eyeliner was also used. Like what Ms. Claire had said the tip of this eye liner is like a Chinese pencil it allows you to draw thin to thick lines, its intense black ensures great impact to your creations, and its long-lastingness will guarantee an unforgettable impression.

Claire then proceeded to teach us the Shu Uemura way of making Smoky Eyes. Which was moistening the eyeshadow brush, then adding color using the Pret-a Palette, then making a small cicle in the middle of the eye and blending both ends together.

Smoky Eyes the done the Shu Uemura way!

After everything is done the “traps” that were set earlier were just brushed off, then contour was added to highlight her cheekbones. So here’s the final look! The model looks ready to party!

After the three looks Ms. Claire worked on four lucky bellas. She also thought us the following:

  • Choose between the eyes or the lips. If your eye makeup is strong don’t pair it with a dark lipstick. And if you have dark lipstick, go easy on your eye makeup.
  • Simplicity is beauty. If you don’t need too  much of it then don’t

If you’ve read my review for Benefit’s Mascara, you will remember this lady. She’s a wonderful make-up artist and honestly I’m really waiting for her to create her blog as she knows many tips, tricks and makeup substitutes. I also like how she doesn’t procrastinate.

During the workshop Ms.Claire kept on describing how the Drawing Pencil Liners were very hard to remove, how you can use it for swimming and not mind if it will later come off or worse blot all over your eyes. So It made me curious… and I tried applying it on my skin.

The Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil Liners.
The Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil Liners.

And here is how Shu Uemura describes the Product:

  • creamy soft texture allows gentle & smooth application.
  • long-lasting and smudge-proof, keep your look fresh through the day.
  • wide range of shades and textures to create any eye look. beautiful balance 10 dark defining colors and 11 bright shades from all hues.
Here are the Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil Liners I got to try.
Here are the Shu Uemura Drawing Pencil Liners I got to try.

I applied it on the back of my hand and after a few minutes I tried removing it with my thumb. IT WONT COME OFF! Hahahah. I had to walk from Shang-ri La Plaza to Megamall and my hand got rubbed and rained on. It is still there! Before going home I noticed my umbrella went missing and I got rained on again. Then I tried rubbing it off, still the same results.

So when I got off I washed my face with Etude’s Foam Cleanser the took a shower. The Silver one is almost gone but the rest are still there though they are not as bright as before.

My Verdict: Considering that this is for the eyes which are not meant to be rubbed, rained at and washed off twice, these pencils are what was described and is truly what Shu Uemura says to be. A great product! I would recommend it!

Thank you BDJ Box and Shu Uemura and Edleen for an afternoon of learning and fun! Unfortunately the next event will be held on my birthday week so I’m not sure if I can attend. But till the next one! For now I’ll be waiting for the delayed July BDJ Box!

BDJ BOX AND SHU UEMURA’S “ART OF BEAUTY” BEAUTY SOIREE: The Art of Contouring

Hello there! A little over a week ago I posted the event notice to BDJ Box’s and Shu Uemura’s Beauty Soiree entitled “Art of Beauty”. This was held on Shu Uemura in Shangri La Plaza last Saturday, July 26,2014. As posted the bellas have two things that we may learn, the Art of Contouring or Dramatic Eye Makeup Application. And being the adventurous cat that I am I would like to attend both! Hahaha. So I was so glad to get Edleen’s reply and was bouncing for joy when she told me that I COULD ATTEND BOTH! WOOOT! After sending back my confirmation, she replied with the names and numbers of my friends who would like to join the Art of Contouring and I instantly thought of 4 bellas all of whom attended both events! ^-^ Anyway I arrived 20 minutes before the 1PM call time for the first workshop that would start by 1:30 PM but that’s fine with me since it gives me enough time to catch my breath, chose the best seats to take my pictures on and take pictures! So here’s the place before the event. There’s just many colors everywhere I look which in turn makes me feel happy!

Joyce then used Shu Uemura’s Depsea which is actually a moisturizer sourced originally from volcanic hot springs 2,000m below the sea surface to offer the ultimate purity. It not only cleanses the skin but also moisturizes it while getting it ready for makeup.

With the contouring a brown eyeshadow was used.

  • You can use eyeshadow too provided that it is matte. You wouldn’t want to have glitters all over your contours right?
  • You can also use othe rmakeup like liquid or powder foundation provided that it is 2-3 shades darker. My friend recommends Max Factor’s Creme Puff for this.

Afterwards we played around! By play I meant tried on the many products Shu Uemura has to offer. I myself tried the UV Under Base and it was the first time for me to use a mousse type primer. It was really nice, easy to use and a small amount really goes a long way.

A snack of pastries, sausage bites and stringbeans covered in bacon was served. Thank you BDJ Box and Shu Uemura!

Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara Review

They’re Real Mascara (Php 1300 for 8.5ml)

I received this mascara with my June BDJ Box and soooo here’s my review.

Now just a quick overview the They’re real Mascara is said to lengthen, curl, volumize, lift and separates lashes. The jet black, long-wearing formula is said not to smudge or dry out. A specially designed brush will reveal the lashes you never knew you had!

They're Real Mascara

I am a fan of great waterproof mascaras because I like washing my face mid-day to get rid of facial oil. And not having a smudgeproof mascara is a big mistake for people like me since it is very difficult to get rid of mascara stains without a make-up remover on hand. Also a waterproof mascara is a great tool to have with the tropical climate here in the Philippines. With the warm to scorching hot weather and the rains that we experience we really need a long-wearing make-up.

At first glance the product looks promising with the before and after pic and the test ratings at the side of the box.Now lets see how it fares.

eyes.jpg

My eyes look happier!
My eyes look happier!

The Verdict: The wand is also awesome for getting into those tight spots at the ends of your lashes. It does make your eyelashes look really long! However, there has been some issues with clumping but a few more applications and it’s okay! Plus this mascara is difficult to get off! Just the way I like it! It lasts me the entire day and even with my afternoon facial washes it’s still there. That’s the beauty with a lasting mascara if you get your face wet you won’t look like a panda. So I’d definitely recommend this and actually I did so I gave it to my friend who is also a makeup artist Mitch. See, good things are meant to be shared?

BDJ Box Beauty Soiree: Get Pixy-fied! A Kawaii Experience

Hello there bellas and guys! Sorry I wasn’t able to update my page last night as I decided to roam around Megamall after the event anyway let’s go and start blogging about the event like really!

20140712_163110
The Pixy Beauty Soiree was held in The Blackboard by Chef Michael in Podium.

We started at around 2PM where we were able to have tasty snacks (pancit and chicken wraps) and my were they yummy?! Yes they were and I’m somehow glad that they served them since I arrived half an hour past noon because of the 1PM call time.

The Blackboard's snack buffet of Chicken Wraps and Pancit.

I was also glad to be with some other bellas again, some who I met at the Revlon Nail Art event and another I met in an office training and also meet other people with like interests.

Our table! This pic was borrowed from Magie of Fab Sparkle.

So after eating, Iana introduced herself. For those who don’t know, Iana is part of the Belle de Jour team and she was the one whom we sent out the entries to. And honestly she’s so pretty! She also gets to be the first model or guinea pig as she fondly calls it.

20140712_140457

She also introduced Liz Lanuzo who is also incharge of Pixy’s Marketing here in the Philippines.

20140712_140016
Liz Lanuzo the Marketing and PR Consultant for Pixy Philippines

What I like with Liz is that she has used the product a lot so she know what to recommend and how to market Pixy! So a brief history about Pixy. It is a Japanese brand which is made and also sold in Indonesia. The great thing about it is that it is specifically made for Asian skin. And since Indonesians have about the same complexion as us Filipinas then the products look good for ladies with morena complexions! Great right? Cause come on not all of us have a fair complexion and morena beauties like me need to chose shades to complement us better. Hmmm what else… oh yeah! Pixy also took into consideration of the tropical climate when they created the product which resulted to the product being long-wearing.

The Pixy product explained. ^-^

The next lady on the mic was Ms.Charm Suerte. She’s a UP graduate turned make-up professional because she wanted to work with her passion which is make-up!

Ms.Charm Suerte our make-up artist for this event.

We will be seeing two great looks recommended for daily wear the Tokyo Kawaii (Cute) Look which is great for day wear and the Tokyo Glam look which is great for parties and evening events.

Pixy Kawai Look
Pixy Kawai Look
Tokyo Glam look
Tokyo Glam look

So for the Tokyo Kawaii look Iana was the model and the great thing with Charm was she told us many tips while she’s doing Iana’s make up.

  • When buying make-up specially foundation, try it on first then check if it matches your skin tone. Then if it does, window shop for a bit and after about an hour or two, if it is still lasting then go buy it.
  • Are there times when you apply face powder or foundation then the next moment it turned darker? Then you are acidic. So buy foundation which is a shade lighter than your skin tone.
  • When using powder make-up and you are using a brush as an applicator then flick it a little so the excess powder will fall on the floor instead on your face.
  • Do not directly apply on lipstick from testers. That’s unhygienic.
  • Wash your sponge and brushes after use to prevent bacterial growth and your skin getting infected.
  • If you’re not sure about make-up then try it on the back of your hand first to see if it looks good on your skin.
  • Before applying make-up make sure that you have a clean face.
  • If you can’t wash your face then use a cleansing sheet, cleansing oil or wipes.
  • Chinita girls would have a hard time using liquid eye-liner so you can use dark eyeshadow to set the liquid and not make it stick all over your eye.
  • Powder eyebrow make-up looks more natural but if you will be wet or will go swimming then use the pencil kind since it lasts longer.
  • Want to have make-up last longer? Moist your make-up brush when applying. Honestly? I damp my face with water when applying my make-up specially my brows.
  • Problem with eyebags? Conceal it! The concealer won’t work? Add little of something orange and matte to your concealer, blend it and slowly apply. This will kill the dark color of your eyebags.
  • Want your eyeshadow to last longer? Use a primer! You don’t have a primer? Then dab on a concealer!
  • Have angry looking zits? Add something green to your concealer to kill the angry red color of your zit!

So there after everything Iana looks more pretty and kawaii!

20140712_144845

Our table got to share Pixy’s set which is really nice… Pixy would you have one of these for sale? I mean whou wouldn’t want one? There are so many colors to choose from and use? It’s all there look!

The Pixy set I want!

I myself tried on the Tokyo Glam look. It has the smoky-eye thing going on and I guess it went okay since I got many compliments.

Looks Glam Right?!

After application we had a chance to take pictures and post them in Instagram for a promo! Two of the prettiest bellas will win a Pixy giftset. I’m hoping to be one of them!

After everything is over we were given a giveaway. And they are just cute! I got an eye shadow set which I like a lot since I threw away my old ones and it’s impractical for me to buy new ones if I won’t use the colors that often. So I am really happy with my giveaway. But that’s not all, in the giveaway is a cute keychain mirror for Pixy and a lovely sugar cookie which looks too good to be eaten.

20140712_201945 20140712_202024

So we were not able to exclusively use the make-up set since we have to share it but it was great and I loved using it. I specially like the lipstick 118 Satin and when Pixy becomes available in a shop near me, I’ll definitely buy that. Which is something because I don’t buy lipstick that often.

The event would’ve been better if we had our own make-up sets to try but the event all in all was good and I was able to learn so many things. So thank you very much BDJ Box and Pixy Philippines! And to the gals who weren’t able to attend, I believe that this is one of many events Pixy Philippines will sponsor to expose their lovely brand. Thank you for reading my blog and I hope that you enjoyed!

BDJ Box Beauty Soiree: Get Pixy-fied! A Kawaii Experience

So a new beauty soiree will be held by BDJ Box in partnership with Pixy! For the BDJ Box Bellas this is the company that sponsored the April 2014 Box. They are a Japanese brand which is made in Indonesia. They were also generous with the samples… so I somehow hope that there will be freebies

My Entry for the event
My Entry for the event

1.Eyeshadows (browns, pinks and grays)
2.Eyeliner
3.Brow Pencil

Face Shop’s Speckled Polish in Pink

I first saw this polish in Face Shop Gateway but was only able to buy it last week. It instantly reminded me of cupcakes!

20140627_030652

I like the how opaque it is and for this I applied it two times. At first it looked too opaque that it covered the cute glitters. Awwwww. But when I applied a clear topcoat it cleared up to show the glitters. It’s so marvelous I love it!

The Verdict: This is one of the best glittered polishes I’ve ever tried. It doesn’t easily crack and it stayed for 5 days before chipping. I’ll definitely buy the others next time (blue and purple).
